Surgery

We perform a large variety of soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries at the clinic.
Surgeries range from procedures such as desexing, caesareans, biopsies, wound and fracture repairs, tumour and lump removals, and exploratory surgeries.

Routine surgeries are performed Monday – Friday.

Anaesthesia

All surgeries are performed under a general anaesthetic in a sterile environment, using the safest anaesthetic agents for the animal’s condition. Each surgery will be monitored by an surgical nurse and anaesthetics are monitored with both heart and respiratory monitors. We use a combination of intravenous and gas anaesthesia, depending on the procedure being performed.

If you pet is considered a senior patient (usually > 7 years of age) we recommend pre-anaesthetic blood tests be performed. We can perform this blood test on the day of surgery prior to the procedure. We also recommend that patients be placed on IV fluids for the duration of the procedure to allow a smoother anaesthetic and recovery.

Desexing

We recommend desexing of both male and female dogs and cats. If you are not breeding with your dog, we recommend you sterilise your pup at 4-6 months of age. As well as helping to control our unwanted dog population, de-sexing your dog provides major health benefits.

  • Spey (females)- reduces the risk of mammary (breast) cancer
    – eliminates the possibility of pyometra (infected uterus), a potentially fatal condition
  • Castration (males)- reduces the risk of prostate problems
    – eliminates the possibility of testicular cancer

If you are not breeding with your kitten, we recommend you sterilse your kitten at 4-6 months of age. As well as helping to control our unwanted kitten population, desexing your cat provides major health benefits.

  • Spey (females)- reduces the risk of mammary (breast) cancer
    – eliminates the possibility of pyometra (infected uterus), a potentially fatal condition
  • Castration (males)- less urine spraying, roaming and cat fights with subsequent cat fight wounds
